Most men know the secret to a toned body is weight training. What surprises many women is that they too can benefit from lifting weights.

Women don’t want to lift because they fear it will make them big and bulky. This simply won’t happen. Women are built differently, and bulking up is not an easy thing to do.

If a woman starts with weight training for beginners and takes it easy, she can give her metabolism a kick, and start to see a better body in a matter of weeks.

Lift weights can be tricky, however, and anyone just starting out needs to know a few things. Weight training for beginners often includes very short sets with a limited amount of weight.

Sometimes, people begin with simple five or ten pound hand weights. Use your better judgment however, and if something feels too heavy, then get something lighter to start.

You might want to start by doing three sets of ten lifts.  Make sure you breathe in and out slowly and steadily as you lift the weights, and keep your body in proper position.

You will learn proper form and proper habits early on if you have someone with you who knows what you should be doing, and can correct you as you go.

If you don’t want to go to a gym, visit your local sporting store for some equipment and weights.

You should buy gloves to give yourself a better grip on your weights, and get an assortment of weights to get you going. Let the sales person know what you need, and ask if they have any recommendations.
